Founder & Director of The 1 By 1 Project
Wanda E. Medina
Wanda Medina, a proud daughter of the Republic of Panama and a U.S. Army Veteran, is a passionate advocate for health equity and community empowerment. Her journey into the world of nutrition and plant medicine began after a life-altering battle with multiple autoimmune conditions. Facing debilitating symptoms and limited answers from conventional medicine, Wanda turned inward-seeking healing through nature, food, and ancient herbal traditions.
Her transformation sparked a deep commitment to ensure that no one, especially in undeserved Latino and Black communities, is left without access to healing foods and knowledge. This personal experience became the seed that grew into The 1 By 1 Project - a grassroots initiative rooted in self - sustainability, nutrition, and year-round access to fresh produce.
Under her leadership, the project installs innovative gardens and greenhouses in overlooked spaces - behind churches, schools, and homes - bringing the healing power of food directly into the heart of the community. Wanda’s mission is clear: to cultivate not just gardens, but wellness, dignity, and a sustainable future for all.
